For months before the birth, we had been talking to Nalini, and explaining to her that a new baby was going to join our family. It was no mistery to her that my huge belly was concealing a future member of our family - she used to rub my tummy and say "baby", and she would give it kisses too. We took the time to read books about having a new baby sibling, and we watched some homebirthing videos together. Nalini was with us during the entire labor and birth process - she even coached me through some of the hardest contractions! When her baby brother arrived, she was really happy to welcome him to the world :).

Nalini holds a very young Taj in her arms.
Ever since a lot of things changed in her life - she made the transition from our bed into her own all by herself, and in the first night after Taj's birth. She has also been focusing on potty matters on her own initiative. Deborah suggested that she's been acting more like a big girl - a big sister! Her relationship with Taj is also very positive - she loves to hold him, and asks for him first thing in the morning. Nalini learned how to change Taj's diaper by herself, and she is very enthusiastic about helping bath him. When he breastfeeds, she likes to join him. And every evening, they fall asleep together in my arms :).
The holding chain - Ana holds Nalini who holds Taj.
And here you can see a movie of a proud big sister holding her 2-week old brother. Way to go, Nalini!

It is obvious that Nalini is an awesome older sister and we are so so proud of her -- taking initiative to use the potty, sleeping in her own bed, holding the baby. As times goes on, Nalini and Taj will have lots of fun together.
